Think Pink

Tackle Breast Cancer With WOW!

Make the Crucial Catch and detect breast cancer early! The Women of Washington Redskins (WOW) has teamed up with Washington Area Toyota dealers to support the fight against breast cancer. From the provision of health tips to the distribution of pink ribbons on gameday, the burgundy and gold need your help to think pink so we can tackle this deadly disease.

Throughout the month of October, WOW will donate $1 to the American Cancer society on behalf of each new member who joins the club. Toyota will match this donation at the end of the month, up to $4,000, to benefit breast cancer research and outreach programs.

For every catch made by the Redskins on the field this season, the Washington Area Toyota dealers will donate $50 to the American Cancer Society to benefit breast cancer research and outreach programs.

Make the crucial catch by using the following health tips to detect breast cancer early:
- Begin monthly breast self-examinations by age 20
- Receive a clinical breast exam every three years starting at age 20
- Schedule mammograms and clinical breast exams each year beginning at age 40

Early detection through annual breast cancer screenings and mammograms is often the best defense and the best way to catch breast cancer early. Click on the map below to find a Washington, D.C., area clinic nearest you and schedule an appointment today for yourself or someone you love.

Redskins Breast Cancer Awareness Game

The Redskins’ Breast Cancer Awareness Game, presented by Inova Health System, will be hosted on Sunday, Oct. 16 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Redskins’ Breast Cancer Awareness Game will feature players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel, additional on-field and in-stadium branding, and 34,000 pairs of gloves will be distributed to fans at the gates, along with information about how to receive mammogram and breast self-exam reminders from Inova by texting GAMEPLAN to 99000 – all to help raise awareness. Much of the apparel worn at games throughout October by players and coaches, along with special game balls and pink coins, will be auctioned off at NFL Auction, with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society’s Community Health Advocates National Grants for Empowerment (CHANGE) program.

Fans attending the Oct. 16 game will be welcomed by Tanya Snyder, wife of Redskins owner Dan Snyder and NFL Breast Cancer Awareness Spokesperson, and hundreds of Zeta Tau Alpha members distributing THINK-PINK!® ribbons and breast cancer awareness educational materials. Mrs. Snyder and ZTA started the THINK-PINK!® campaign for breast cancer awareness in 1999. At the time, the Redskins were the only team in the league to participate. With the founding and continuous support of Mrs. Snyder and the Washington Redskins, ZTA created a national model for THINK-PINK!® throughout the NFL. Currently, all 32 teams in the NFL participate in the campaign.

WOW and Mrs. Snyder will welcome the Redskins Charitable Foundation’s All-Stars, 31 women currently battling breast cancer, along with more than 200 WOW members, in a special pink-themed pregame party. Guests will receive WOW pink rally towels.
