Sugar has hit the headlines again this week.
Each time the sweet stuff makes the national news, I cringe a little bit. The sensationalizing of journalism can often “scare” audiences into taking drastic measures to avoid the spotlighted villain of the week.
I agree 100% that most of us need to reduce the non-nutritive, added sugar in our diets. However, I often see my clients “throwing out the baby with the bath water” when it comes to sugar by attempting to take ALL the sugar out of their diets ... Read More …

How can we best take care of our children?
Take care of ourselves first.
As women, often the moment that our first child is born is the most pivotal moment in our lives. Not only was it the most beautiful baby you had ever seen but it was the moment you changed forever. You had gone from being cared for to the caretaker. You have literally spent countless hours, days, and years, doing, thinking and buying things for this person who is the most important person in the world to ... Read More …

In last week's post, we discussed the importance of reducing salt in our diet. I mentioned that salt often serves as a flavor enhancer to our food, which may also be why it can be so difficult for some of us to reduce it in our diet! Many of my clients struggle to reduce the salt in their diet because they admit food can taste bland without salt.
I am a huge believer that food should be enjoyed and savored. Food is truly one of the pleasures ... Read More …

What were you doing on Sunday afternoon? Were you at the mall or grocery shopping? Maybe you were even working on your taxes?
Well, I was at Redskins Park, along with members of the Women of the Washington Redskins, taking a Zumba class and having a blast! It was great to see such a fabulous turnout. Our instructor, Nikki of Gold's Gym, Ashburn led us through the Latin-inspired dance-fitness program to awesome music.
The Zumba fitness party was easy to follow, thanks to Nikki, and so much fun ... Read More …

Of all the seasons, winter presents the most challenges to an active lifestyle.
After what little snow we had on Friday, all I wanted to do was nestle on the couch and watch a movie and it made me think of the long winter we still have ahead of us. After all, January and February are the months we get our coldest weather. While temperatures continue to drop, it’s still important to remain active and maintain our fitness programs. We are humans, not grizzle bears – we don’t hibernate until spring ... Read More …

WOW talks with Dawna Royster, Mom to Redskins rookie Evan Royster, about gamedays, local hangouts and more!
01.25.2012 / Blog Posts Redskins WOW Interview Series
From the practice squad to NFL starter in just a few weeks, Evan Royster proved his value to the Redskins running game this season. Due to a season-ending injury to Tim Hightower and ineffectiveness by Ryan Torain, Royster stepped into the starting lineup the last two weeks of the season when Roy Helu, another rookie running back, was slowed by knee and toe injuries. He rushed for 100 yards in both games, finished with 328 yards for the season, and averaged 5.9 yards per carry.
