Fed up? Frustrated? Bored? Practicing healthy habits can sometimes become humdrum and mind-numbing.
But it's springtime and as the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers. Here are some ways that you can turn a few mundane health habits more exciting.
Drinking Water - Water is flavorless, and when it comes to drinking the recommended half your body weight in ounces, it can become a real drab. Try adding a kick to your water by infusing it with some flavorful fruits! Add chopped strawberries and mint leaves or cucumbers and lemon to give it some added flavor without added calories.
Your Cardio Routine - Running on the treadmill for 45 minutes can be a real bore for some people. Try sprucing up your cardio routine by adding some 30 second sprint and 30 second walk intervals. Not only does this interval training keep you from extreme boredom for 45 minutes, it also burns more fat and takes less time. It only takes 15-20 minutes to burn about as many as you would in a 30-45 minute long cardio session. You can also spruce up your cardio routine by changing up the type of cardio. Try the treadmill for 15 minutes, then hop on the elliptical for 15 minutes, and then the bike for 15 minutes. Just that quick your 45 minute cardio session is over and you never became bored out of your mind.
Your Strength Training Routine - Overload your senses with a great environment of things to look at (nature outdoors, a busy gym, a funny movie) and add an amazing hardcore playlist that makes you feel like superman/woman. Your strength training routine is sure to turn from humdrum to über hype in 0.2 seconds. Not to mention, you may not focus on the muscle burn as much.
No matter how much you want to stick to a healthy routine, you won't get and stay fit if you aren't having fun. Find ways to spice up your health habits to step out of that wintertime rut and hop into that springtime motivation!
