Redskins Lose to Green Bay on the road, 38-20

For the second straight week the Washington Redskins fell behind early, this time 24-0 at halftime to the Green Bay Packers before ultimately losing 38-20. Quarterback Robert Griffin III led a valiant comeback attempt in the second half, but the lead was insurmountable with time winding down.

Defensively, the Redskins struggled to contain Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers who threw for a career-high 480 yards and four touchdowns.  Rodgers kept the defense off-balance all game and it opened up their rushing attack as running back James Starks had 132 yards and a touchdowns. On offense, the unit only got three first downs in the first half and converted on only three of 11 third down attempts.

There were a few bright spots on both sides of the ball as running back Alfred Morris, wide receiver Pierre Garcon and linebacker Ryan Kerrigan all had fantastic individual performances.  On the Packers first drive of the game they marched deep into Redskins territory, but Kerrigan bull rushed through the Packers offensive line for back-to-back sacks; forcing them to settle for a field goal.

Pierre Garcon had his best day yet as a Redskin, recording 143 yards on seven catches and a third quarter touchdown that put the Redskins on the scoreboard and Alfred Morris bounced back from a self-admitted frustrating first game to run for 107 yards on a career-high 8.2 yards per carry.

Wide receiver Santana Moss also recorded his first touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter, but the Redskins couldn’t get the ball back after his score and the Packers ran out the clock for the victory.

The Redskins (0-2) will return to FedExField this Sunday to take on the Detroit Lions (1-1) and All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson. The two teams last met during the 2010 season where the Lions won 37-25.
