The Washington Redskins headed into yesterday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers desperate for a win, and that’s exactly what they got. Although it wasn’t a perfect performance by any means, the Redskins pulled out a last-second, 24-22 victory over the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium in Florida.
Things were going very smoothly for the Redskins coming out of halftime. They led 21-6 and were dominant both offensively and defensively against the Buccaneers. But the hometown team just wouldn’t go away, and turned in several huge second-half plays to score 16 unanswered points and take a 22-21 lead going into the final 1:42 of the game.
But when the going got tough, Robert Griffin III and the Redskins' offense got going.
Griffin III — a rookie quarterback — put his team on a drive that would give them a chance at a game-winning field-goal attempt. Miraculously, the headset in Griffin III’s helmet was not working on that final drive, meaning he could not hear the plays being called by offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.
So Griffin III had to compromise, and he completed three consecutive passes tomove onto the Buccaneers’ side of the field. Then, with about 15 seconds remaining in the game, Griffin III took off with the ball himself, running 15 yards to the 26-yard line and setting up a game-winning field goal for kicker Billy Cundiff, who had missed three field goals earlier in the game.
The Buccaneers did not have any timeouts left to try to ice the kicker, so Cundiff lined up for the game-winning attempt with seven seconds remaining.

This time, Cundiff’s 41-yard field goal was good, and the Redskins and their fans could celebrate their second win of the season.
The Redskins return home on Sunday, as they play host to the Atlanta Falcons. Kickoff from FedExField is set for 1 p.m.
It's our turn.
