Meet Lyndsay - Redskins Cheerleader, hospice community liaison and community advocate! WOW sat down with the rookie to the first ladies of football to find out what game day looks like, tips to stay in shape and how see how Lyndsay spends her free time.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself – How many years have you been on the team?
Hi! This is my first year with the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders, which I am so excited about. Prior to making the Redskins Cheerleading team, I also cheered professionally for the NBA. I work full time as a Community Liaison for a Hospice company in Northern Virginia. What I enjoy most about my job is that it's different every day; it can be very rewarding and also very emotional. In my role, I do a lot of educating about hospice care.
2. What does an average gameday look like for a cheerleader?
Although we have to arrive at the stadium pretty early, game day is such an amazing experience! We have to get to the stadium before our amazing fans and also to avoid the possibility of getting stuck in traffic and missing practice - since practice does make perfect! We practice our routines on the field before the stadium gates even open. We also do promos for our fans before the game starts, so we make sure we are dressed and ready to perform very early. It can get hectic with 40 ladies in the locker room sometimes, but it's that fun that makes you laugh.
3. How do you keep in such good shape – have any tricks for our readers?
As a team, we dance a lot which helps us all to stay in shape but I also really enjoying weight training. Before I made the team I was weight training at the gym 5-6 times a week. I think that a lot of women are afraid to lift weights and think it will make them look too muscular, but I love the definition and curves it gives me. I encourage women to use weights in the gym, you will see your body transform. My tip is to use low weights and do a lot of reps.
I also enjoy eating and cooking healthy. When I eat clean and fresh it just makes my body feel good. But I am human and trust me, I have the biggest sweet tooth ever so I do treat myself! I just do so in moderation, I honestly think that has always been the trick for me.
4. What do you like to do on your Sunday’s when you’re not cheering with the squad on the sidelines?
When I am not on the sidelines on a Sunday, I am resting :). Football is my favorite sport to watch so I will cook up a good meal, snuggle on the couch with Khloe (my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) and of course, watch the Redskins play!
5. Are there certain causes the Redskins Cheerleaders support?
The Washington Redskins Cheerleaders support so many causes! As a Rookie, I am still learning all that we are involved in. One of my favorites to participate in is when the First Ladies support Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing pink during the month of October. We have pink jerseys, pink poms, pink ribbons, pink everything! It's a great way to raise the awareness of women and men for such an important cause.
Another one of our biggest causes is the military. Every year, many of the First Ladies travel all over the world to support our men and women in the armed forces. We have ladies on tour in Egypt supporting our troops right now! This is such an amazing cause and one that is greatly appreciated by both the troops and those ladies who get to go on tour. It is truly an honor to be chosen to go.
I can genuinely say that one of my favorite things about being a Washington Redskins Cheerleader is giving my time to support these causes and also just giving back to the local community. In fact, just the other week the team invited a little girl who wants to be a professional cheerleader to come to our practice and hang out with us. It meant the world to her and it also taught us a lot!
