WOW joined the efforts of more than 400 volunteers to help distribute Thanksgiving food and say thanks to the residents of Prince George’s county, the home of the team’s stadium since 1997.
Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder, general manager Bruce Allen and Redskins players Oshiomogho Atogwe, Lorenzo Alexander, Josh Wilson, Donte Stallworth, Jabar Gaffney, Niles Paul, Brandyn Thompson, Nick Sundberg, DeJon Gomes and Erik Cook helped hand out Thanksgiving baskets to more than 3,500 residents in need.
“This is about giving back to the community,” Snyder said. “Prince George’s County has been great to FedExField and we’re so thankful to the people of this county for everything they do for us. There are 3,500 families who will have a great Thanksgiving because of all the efforts of Harris Teeter and Ryan Homes and all of the participants.”
WOW volunteers were located at the perishables station and spent the morning packaging potatoes, sweet potatoes and onions to be distributed to Prince George’s county residents in need later in the afternoon.
Cornerback Josh Wilson and his wife helped package food for easier distribution, along with some coaches’ wives including Peggy Shanahan, wife of Redskins coach Mike Shanahan. Safety DeJon Gomes and girlfriend Ashley Pulliam joined in as well, helping distribute the more than 100,000 pounds of groceries to families in need.
