I’d like to begin by introducing myself. My name is Jane Jakubczak and I am enjoying my 5th season as the Washington Redskins Team Dietitian. My responsibility is to teach, guide and support the players in making the most performance enhancing food choices, body comp supporting portion size selections and optimizing food timing for superior recovery.
These same 3 nutrition principles apply to all of our lives whether we are an NFL player or a mother, student, daughter, sister, etc. Women play multiple positions in the game of life and being properly fueled will enhance our performance in all areas.
Smart Food Choices
Did you know the average person makes more than 200 food decisions a day! Anything practiced hundreds of times a day will have a huge impact on our health and wellbeing. My contributing blog posts will provide strategies on how to make the smartest food choices in many different real-life situations.
Portion Distortion has invaded our society! I will put portion sizes back into perspective and provide guidance on how to control portion sizes without feeling deprived, hungry or guilty.
Meal and Snack Timing
With overly scheduled lives being the norm these days, this may be the most challenging principle to practice but can also make the most impact on the two previous principles. This blog will supply you with the needed strategies to incorporate good nutrition and smart dietary practices into our very busy lives.
In the upcoming weekly nutrition blogs I will tackle each of these nutrition principles in more detail, provide information on why the principle is important and how you can integrate them into your busy life. I will offer further resources to support your efforts and suggest a weekly goal for practicing the principle/topic of the week.

Jane Jakubczak MPH, RD, CSSD, LDN is a Registered Dietitian and a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics. She has been the Redskins Team Sports Dietitian since 2006 as well as the Campus Dietitian for the University of Maryland Terrapins since 1999. An athlete herself, she has completed 5 marathons including the New York City Marathon, Philadelphia Marathon and the Marine Corp Marathon as well as 2 Triathlons, including the 2008 Iron Girl in Columbia, MD. She is very passionate about food being one of the pleasures in life and each eating occurrence should be enjoyed to its fullest. She believes in the Intuitive Eating approach to managing one’s weight for a lifetime and has helped hundreds of people rebuild their relationship with food and ultimately achieve a healthy weight.
